Way To Aid Thai Project New Zealand schools could assist New Zealanders engaged in the Rotary “Good Neighbour” scheme in Thailand by partially adopting the schools they were working at, Sir Edmund Hillary said in Christchurch on his arrival from Bangkok where he had studied the scheme. Four New Zealanders were working on a village development project in the northeast of Thailand, about 300 miles from Bangkok. They were working on two schools at “We need furniture costing about £25 for each of these schools,” Sir Edmund Hillary said. “The price is not high because local people will build the stuff.” “Then we need books. These would probably cost about £2O for each of the two schools. “There are also a number of other things we need such as iron for the roof. Otherwise they would be thatched. We need £5O for iron."
