SUMMER REGENT
Campaign In Queensland (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BRISBANE, May 15. The crack New Zealand galloper, Summer Regent, will open his Queensland season in the May Handicap at Doomben tomorrow. Although regarded as a possible winner, Summer Regent will be at some disadvantage since he has not started since March 30 when he ran second to Zlnga Lee in the Sydney Cup.
One of the reasons he is starting tomorrow is that his trainer, J. Carroll, considers he has put on condition and wants the race as part of his preparation for the Brisbane Cup to be run on June 15
Summer Regent will carry 9-5 tomorrow but starts from barrier one and should come through well.
Before the Sydney Cup he easily won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick at weight-for-age by five lengths. Three starts earlier he won the Trentham Stakes of 11 furlongs at Wellington with 9-3. Latest betting on the Brisbane Cup puts Summer Regent favourite at 3/1.
