UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO There is a vacancy for a medical graduate to undertake cardiological research leading to a higher degree (M.D., Ph.D.). The laboratories are new and modern equipment is available for clinical and laboratory investigations. Circulatory studies at present in progress include: Work on (clinical and experimental) ventricular arrhythmias: clinical and experimental work on the pathogenesis and treatment of hypertension, studies of juxtaglomerular granulation in hypertension, catecholamine metabolism electron microscope studies of heart and kidneys. Studies in circulatory pharmacology are tn progress. The equipment includes multichannel electrocardiographic and other data-recording apparatus, spectrophoto - fluorimeter, equipment for isotope studies. The Research Fellowship will be available for two years, and the successful applicant will be required to conduct research under the direction of Professor H. Bloom, D.Sc. Applicants should have a particular interest in the power side of electrical engineering. The successful applicant will be expected to assist in the planning and teaching of undergraduate courses and to take part in the power research activities of the School. The salary for a Senior Lecturer is within the range £2745 xlOO- - per annum; for a Lecturer within the range £1895-xlos- - per annum. In each case cost of living adjustments will be allowed (at present £l6 p.a.). The salary is subject to deductions under the State Superannuation Act. Applicants must bold at least an honours degree of high standing in mathematics or have equivalent qualifications and be able to produce evidence of strong research interests and experience. The successful applicant will lecture in his own speciality but will also participate in the general teaching programme of mathematics in science and engineering courses.
