NEW STRIKE AIRCRAFT

British ‘Moving Wings’ Project (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, March 31. The Royal NaVy and Royal Air Force have! agreed on a joint strike fighter-bomber oi very high performance and futuristic design for' service in 1980, the “Daffy Tele graph” air force correspondent reported. The plane would have “moving wings,” capable oi being swung back in flight to reduce air resistance at high speeds or kept in the "for ward” position to give economical “loitering” endurance. It would be capable of mach three and have a “terrific climbing fate.” The “Daily Telegraph” said the aircraft was intended as a replacement for the American Naval Phantoms and the R.A.F.’s P-1154 and possibly also its Lightnings. The development project was expected to cost at least £5OO million.
