ROLL-ON FERRY
New Facilities Necessary
Lyttelton Harbour Board representatives have inspected the facilities for the Aramoana at Wellington in its roll-on, roll-off loading and unloading methods, Mr J. A. Cashin, engineer-in-chief, told a meeting of the board yesterday. He said that Lyttelton had never had a roll-on, roll-off ferry, and that special facilities would have to be built at the port Mr Cashin was answering a question from Mr L. G. Amos, who asked what facilities were needed for this type of loading and unloading, and whether Lyttelton could cope with it.
Mr Cashin said that the board’s representatives had seen the preliminary drawings of the new ship, and would soon have an idea of the money which would be required to build the necessary facilities at Lyttelton. “We can then consider where the money is to come from,” said the chairman, Mr A. A. Macfarlane.
