Providing the Government grants Ryan Brothers a special import licence for a large American earth-moving machine and attachments valued at £50,000, levelling work for the instrument landing system at Christchurch airport will be finished by the end of July. A partner in the firm (Mr B. Ryan) said yesterday that an application for the licence iwas made almost two months ago.

“Our application was fairly heavily frowned upon and I understand that it is now before the Minister,” he said. “While we have equipment that could do the work, the project is of such a size that a better and quicker job could be done with this American machine. If the licence is not granted, we will find it hard to meet the contract date,” said Mr Ryan.
