Opawa Reserves

Sir, —On December 8, 1959, you published a letter of mine relating to the public reserve between Hawford road and Ombersley terrace, in Which 1 pointed out, from Government survey maps, that Ombersley terrace is (as my father always said) a crescent. And now I have further found that the City Council district planning map 20, June 13, 1962, very definitely portrays that crescent shape round to approximately Hawford road, but really to Cooksley’s old shingle-pit road. During a recent visit I found Cooksley’s stables and house all demolished. But the most significant fact is that ex-Thomson property, “Finavon,” occupies the main trunk relation to all that green-margined area on the maps. An examination of the area fronting Butler street showed me it was a most valuable site for a secondary school, without peer.—Yours, etc.. R. M. THOMSON. March 31, 1964.
