DOG LEFT TO DROWN
“Worst Case Of Cruelty” (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 24. “One of the worst instances of cruelty on our books.” This was how a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals official today described the deliberate drowning of a dog at Island Bay at the week-end. A rope was tied around the animal’s neck and then secured to a large boulder so that there was no chance of the dog dragging itself free. It was then left to drown in the rising tide. A Labrador-terrier cross, the animal was found on Monday afternoon. “We intend to pursue this matter to the very end,” said the official.
