Disused Tram Rails
Sir, —During my visit to your beautiful city I have found very little which could possibly be improved. However, while riding a bicycle along Papanui road I was dangerously upset by the tramlines. My friends inform me that these are the only ones left in Christchurch. They are a menace to all cyclists attempting a right-hand turn. Why have these not also been removed? —Yours, etc., CYCLIST. March 11, 1964. [The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) says “The tramlines in the northern section of Papanui road are set in a considerable depth of concrete and there are no proposals for their removal at this stage. Ultimately, when road construction is undertaken in this section of Papanui road,-they will probably be removed.”]
