INQUIRY THREAT
Board Firm On Merger
(N.Z. Press Association)
WAIPUKURAU, March 19. The Electricity Advisory Council has threatened the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board with a commission of inquiry if the board does not voluntarily enter into negotiations with the Hawke’s Bay Power Board with a view to amalgamation. This threat was contained in a letter from the council discussed at today’s board meeting. The board unanimously resolved to adhere to its previous decisions not to amalgamate with the Hawke’s Bay Board. “Let the' Advisory Council do its damndest,” said Brigadier G. Clifton. “There is no possibility of our area getting any benefit from a merger.’’ “1 accept the challenge,” said the chairman (Mr G. J. Harvey). “We have been unanimous on two previous occasions. “Why does Central Hawke’s Bay have to be the guinea pig?“ “The letter from the Advisory Council does not ring true,” said Mr Harvey. “They just hope we will enter into negotiations. Let the next move be theirs.
