DIPLOMAT EXPELLED

West German In Moscow

(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, March 17

The West German Embassy in Moscow announced tonight that Dr. Heinz Neupert, its counsellor for commercial and economic affairs, had been expelled by the Soviet Union.

Correspondents were informed that no explanation had been given to the West German Ambassador (Mr Horst Groepper) when he was palled to the Soviet Foreign ' Office. It was the first expulsion from the West German Embassy since it was created eight years ago.

West German observers said it was possible that the Soviet authorities had considered Dr. Neupert to be spying. He has been commercial counsellor since 1960.

Dr. Neupert, an oil specialist, has done no travelling within the Soviet Union recently. He has just returned from a holiday in Bonn and Helsinki, where he was economic adviser before being posted to Moscow.
