GAMBLING CASINOS

(Special Crspdt. N.ZP.A.)

The opening in Britain of 500 gambling clubs in the last two years since the gaming laws were relaxed proved that the spirit which previously had been shown by the British only on holiday abroad, could be an all-the-year-round feeling, says a “Financial Times” writer. Admittedly a number of the clubs have been small, with no more than a single roulette table, and a good many opened and closed again within weeks, crippled by the burden of bad debts and a clientele who stayed away for most nights of the week and spent only on Friday; but in most bf the biggest towns and cities, particularly London, the gaming casinos have been a profitable investment.
