Pulp Mill Finds By-Product (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. March 12. A by-product of the wood pulping process at the Kinleith paper mill which was formtrly “boiled off” as a waste gas is being distilled and recovered. A form of vegetable turpentine. it is finding a ready market in Great Britain at £BO a ton as a perfume intermediate. Production is between 300 and 400 tons a year. Two primary components of vegetable turpentine are alpha pinene, normally found in large quantities, and beta pinene, usually present m small quantities. In vegetable turpentine derived from radiata pine the proportions are reversed.
