M.P. Gaoled In Rhodesia

The deputy parliamentary leader of Northern Rhodesia’s opposition African National Congress, Mr Edward Liso, was today sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. He was convicted at the Magistrate’s Court in Broken Hill on two charges of causing actual bodily harm and of possessing an offensive weapon. He received two sixmonth sentences to run concurrently. Mr Liso, who pleaded not guilty, was said to have taken part in an attack <on supporters of Mr Kenneth Kaunda’s ruling United National Independence Party.

Mr Liso is the second ranking A.N.C. member of Parliament after the party leader, Mr Harry Nkumbula.
