A CLOSED SHOP
Printers’ Union Sees Anomaly (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 17. The proposed entry of overseas interests into the newspaper world of New Zealand was discussed by the national executive of the Printing and Related Trades Union in Wellington last week. In a supplied statement, the executive said it viewed with interest the approach of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association to the Government request that the policy of a closed shop be instituted by the Government in regard to the overseas interests entering the newspaper field. “The Printers’ Union has attempted over many years to obtain the closed shop for its membership but has been opposed at all times by the newspaper proprietors whose policy in regard to industrial relations is jn the union’s opinion master-minded by interests outside the newspaper industry," said the executive.
