Water Taken To Barge
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Feb. 17. The Whangarei Harbour Board’s new £37,000 hopper barge was successfully launched on Saturday in an unusual method where the water was brought to the ship rather than the ship taken to the water.
The barge, 120 ft long, 36ft wide, and drawing Ift 9in empty and Bft loaded, was designed for a 420-ton load. It was built by the Whangarei Engineering Company and was taken about 150 yards from the building to the harbour by a system of artificial locks.
