GAVE HIMSELF UP TO COURT
Barman Appears On 3 Charg es (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Feb. 14. Reginald William Hannam, a 20-year-old Dunedin hotel barman, arrived at the Court office this morning and announced that he was giving himself up. A little more than an hour later, Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., convicted him in the Magistrate’s Court on three charges and fined him a total of £l7 10s. The Magistrate also told Hannam that if he had not given himself up it was possible that he would have been sent to gaol. “You have the record of a larrikin,” said Mr Willis. Hannam had pleaded guilty to fighting in a public place on Tuesday (fined £7 10s), using obscene language in a public place (fined £10), and escaping from custody (convicted and ordered to pay costs). “I was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the offences,” Hannam said this morning. “I got a bit frightened, so I ran.”
