Reassurance By De Gaulle
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) PARIS, February 16. President de Gaulle assured Dr. Erhard, the West German Chancellor, in their in Paris, that France will not disrupt the North Atlantic alliance. He gave the assurance after Dr. Erhard had stressed West Germany’s preoccupation with preserving the unity of the alliance in the light of France’s increasingly independent foreign policyA West German spokesman said the two leaders had agreed to co-operate closely giving aid to Latin America. Ministers also discussed development aid for African countries. The possibility of increasing imports from them and the role of private enterprise were among points discussed. The West German Foreign Minister, Dr. Gerhard Schroeder, summed up French and German military and political differences by referring to two clocks in the conference room. French - German relations were like these clocks. “They chime in perfect unison on the hours ,but are slightly out of tune on the half-hours,” he said.
