RADIATA SEEN AS ASSET
Growth Rate In N.Z. ‘Unique’ (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 12. The growth-rate of radiata pine in New .Zealand was a “unique phenomenon” which a Canadian timber expert, Mr Evan Essex, says could make it New Zealand’s greatest primary industry. “There is an unsatisfied demand throughout the world for high-grade timber. This shortage can only grow progressively worse,” said Mr Essex. On the other hand, there was a glut of lower grade timber. “New Zealanders don’t seem to realise that they have at their fingertips an industry which in a few years could become this country’s greatest primary industry,” he said.
