Wisteria Awaited

My wisteria, which was planted live years ago, has not yet flowered. It has an abundance of green leaves and produces numerous spindly branches from ground level which I remove, leaving only two original branches to twine along an iron wall. Its failure to flower is disappointing when local wisterias are in full flower. Your advice on the problem would be appreciated.— “Maureen” (Waimate). The wisteria is moot likely a .seedling, and these may take some time to flower, just how long is impossible to forecast. It will flower eventually, so you will have to be patient.

Could you tell me whether the name of the enclosed plant is desfontainea or crinodendron? I have been given both names by different people, and I would like to have the correct name.—(Mrs) BJ.W. (Christchurch). The plant Is correctly called crinodendron hookerianum, but it has also been called tricuspidaria dependens. I have recently come to live in the Christchurch area from the North Island, where I have several bougainvilleas growing in the house. You may possibly be able to grow bougainvillea glabra trail-

Hi (also known as B. magntflea traillli). which is the hardiest variety of bougainvillea. Here at Lincoln there is one growing on a north wall, which does flower some years, but is likely to be cut back in a cold winter.
