COLLEGE IN SAMOA
Dr. M. M. Burns To Advise Dr. M. M. Burns, principal of Lincoln College, will leave Christchurch at the weekend for Samoa to advise on the planning of a new agricultural college there. He is being sent by the New Zealand Government at the request of the Samoan Government.
The college was recommended by Dr. Bums on an earlier visit to Samoa when he was asked to advise on agricultural education. He recommended the establishment of a post-secondary agricultural college to provide practical training in agriculture up to diploma standard. It is intended to serve other English-speaking Polynesian terirtories. On this visit, Dr. Burns will advise on the design and construction of the buildings and also the planning of the organisation of the college. The bulk of the capital cost of the college is being provided by the New Zeeland Freedom from Hunger Campaign. The staff will be seconded partly by the United Nations and possibly partly by the New Zealand Government.
