CAR HIT BY TRAIN
Driver Escapes With Injuries (N.Z. Press Association) HAWERA, Nov. 12. A man was admitted to hospital after his car had been struck by a north-bound diesel-powered goods train on a Hawera level crossing at 9.10 tonight. He is Alan Weeden, of Victoria street, Hawera. The car was thrown about 15 feet by the slowly moving train and came to rest by the signal light standard. One front wheel of the car was smashed off, and the motor severely damaged, but the driver’s compartment was almost untouched. Mr Weeden's condition tonight was reported to be satisfactory.
