Eliminated from the tournament was the team's fifthranked player. Gene Scott, who played well below the form expected for an international when he was beaten in straight sets by Barry Geraghty. Geraghty trounced Scott, 6-4. 6-1, 6-3. Frank Froehling beat a little-known Victorian, 21-year-old George Collins, 2-6, 8-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
