Talent Well Scattered In Show Day Teams
Twelve players who have ap. peared for Canterbury in Plunket Shield matches are included in the four senior Canterbury elevens that will play the four Minor Association teams on Friday. Show Day. However, the selectors (Messrs A. R. Mac Gibbon, convener, F. Dennis and R. T. Hunt) have spread the talents around as four of the players are in the match on Hagley 1. three each on Hagley 3 and 4, and the other two in B, A. Salt’s XI on Hagley 6. The team to play Ashburton on Hagley I is led by last year’s Plunket Shield captain, G. T. Dowling, and appears to be the strongest as, in addition to the Shield players, it includes three others who have appeared in first-class cricket: P. B. Wight (Somerset and British Guiana), G. A. Bartlett (Central Districts and New Zealand) and K. Ferries (Western Australia). However, several young players are being given a chance and second grade players wiii draw encouragement from the fact that' three in that grade— B. Andrews. J. W. Cahill and A. Westwood—are in the teams. The teams are:— Senior.—v. Ashburton on Hag-
