Slow Scoring By Lancaster Park
There was not much colourful batting in the game at Hagley No. 3 except when R. C. Mota launched his savage attack on A. G. Duckmanton. G. R. McAulay again looked a
polished, proficient batsmap, but again his innings was cut short before its full flowering. Then Mota and R. M. Stewart applied themselves diligently to defence, until Mota saw fit to release his full hitting powers. J. W. Kiddey added some useful runs, and the total of 200 was a satisfactory one. after a poor start, and on a pitch which yielded ready turn. B. Irving bowled with fine control, and deserved the respect he commanded. P. B. Wight played some magnificent strokes in his 27 for Lancaster Park, but there were many of much inferior quality The other batsmen came and went rapidly, save for M. Randle, who batted tenaciously, until D. J. McKendry and Irving stayed together for 45 minutes. Mota and Kiddey in a long spell, broke the back of the Park batting, and the team has a hard task ahead on the second day. The umpires are Messrs J. Streeter and R. Hobbs.
