Inquiries At Trentham

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON', October 28. Near the half-mile in the Spring Novice at Trentham, Autumn Red (C. M. Hencock) was in difficulty. In dropping back he caused Fast Lad (N. D. Riordan) to lose his position. On the turn Fast Lad was in trouble again when L’Arc (N. E. East-wood) ran greenly. Fair Citation (P. H. Meier) was also affected by this. At the second-last fence in the Rana Hurdles, Tilly Light (V. R. Coley) wtas obstructed when Cinnaman (F. H. Pope) fell. Harlech (N. C. Treweek) made faulty jumps ait the last two hurdles.

After the Tararua Handicap the judicial committee reported that the favourite, Cantus (W. D. Skelton), which trailed the leader Vogel Bflioem to the straight, was ridden hard, but was unable to come on.

About a furlong and a half from the finish of the Roseneath Handicap, Narbada (N. D. Riordan) was cramped for room when Rio (J. F. G-ryills) went past her bn the outside.

Riordan confirmed that Narbada was cramped, but said this was mainly due to her running greenly and moving out slightly. Seeaysee (B. F. Andrews), which was pulling hard had to be checked off Rio’s heels as they approached the junction of the course proper. After the Pearce Handicap. J. R. Dowding stated that Lianmad prejudiced his chances by pulling very hard for the first five furlongs and a half. Dowling was instructed to ride the horse near the lead, but the slow pace caused it to pull. Consequently, when Lhanmai was asked for an effort to follow Gauntlet at the straight entrance there was no response. Inside the furlong, P. H. Meier (Harvest Moon) broke his off-side stirrup leather. The Leather wras inspected and found to be brand-new.
