On-course totalteator betting dropped th* year by £14,370 10b on the two-day North Canterbury Racing Club's meeting, which ended The total for the two days this year was £55.176 10s, compared with £68,547 last year. The turnover yesterday was £35,722 10s, compared with £39,556 test year.
Contempler Out Of Derby (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 28. The New Zeeland colt Sir Dane became a firm outright favourite for the £ 10,000 VJtC. Derby next Saturday after the announcetneot today that the South Australian entry Oontetnpler wiM not run. Contempler was injured during the running of the Cox Plate on Saturday and will be withdrawn from the Derby. He was one of the early favourites.
The champion jockey of the Melbourne carnival, W. Pyers, gave up Sir Dane to take the Derby mount on Contempler. He will now ride another South Australian entry. L’Escargiot.
