Contempler Out Of Derby (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 28. The New Zeeland colt Sir Dane became a firm outright favourite for the £ 10,000 VJtC. Derby next Saturday after the announcetneot today that the South Australian entry Oontetnpler wiM not run. Contempler was injured during the running of the Cox Plate on Saturday and will be withdrawn from the Derby. He was one of the early favourites.
The champion jockey of the Melbourne carnival, W. Pyers, gave up Sir Dane to take the Derby mount on Contempler. He will now ride another South Australian entry. L’Escargiot.
