HIGHER TAX EXEMPTION
Undertaking By Labour (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept. 11. Details of the tax concessions which would be given by a Labour Government were announced by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nordmeyer) during the debate on the second reading of the Land and Income Tax (Annual) Bill in Parliament tonight. He said the concessions would replace t.he percentage reductions given by the present Government. The exemption for a single person would be raised from £9 a week to £lO a week. The exemption for a married man would be raised from £l2 a week to £l5 a week. A single man would be 3s a week better off and a married man 9s. “For those on the higher incomes, the value of the exemption will vary. People on the lower incomes will get more in these reductions and those on the higher incomes will receive less,” Mr Nordmeyer said.
