Five grants to aid New Zealand literature, made on the recommendation of the Literary Fund Advisory Committee, have been announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Leoe Gotz). | The £lOO award for achievement for works published in 1962 was divided between Hubert Witheford, a New Zealander living in' London, tar a collection of i poems called ‘"The Lightning Makes a Difference." and i Ruth Dallas, of Dunedin, fori a collection of poems called "The Turning Wheel.” i Hie Pegasus Press, Christchurch, would receive £125 towards the cost of publishing "A Map of Morning,” i a book of poems by Peter i Hooper. A grant of £l2B 10s will be made to the P.E.N. New Zealand centre to increase to, £5O each the amount of two grants from the Jessie Mackay aw-ard tar poetry and one from the Hubert Church award for prose. > Two awards are being made for poetry this year because there was none last year.

Publication of "Bread and a Pension,” poems by Louis Johnson, of Hastings, will be assisted by a grant of £l5O to the Pegasus Press, Cliristchurch.
