INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS
Comment Sought On Omission
The Minister of External .Affairs (Mr Holvoake) and the Minister of Tourist and Health Resorts (Mr Eyre) would be asked tn comment on the omission of the Christchurch international airport from an article in the May 13 issue of the magazine "Newsweek.” said the president of the South Island Publicity Association (Mr H. P. Smith). The article. "New Zealand Today,” included a statement; "International airlines serve Auckland and WeUing"ton.’’ The attention of the association had been drawn to the statement by the Buller Chamber of Commerce, which wrote to the editor of "Newsweek” pointing out that Christchurch also had an international airport. A reply which said that "the text material was supplied by the New Zealand High Commissioner in London. and we are calling their attention to this fact,” was received by the Buller chamber.
The article was in the form of an advertisement by the New Zealand Government to commemorate the opening of New Zealand House. “The incident illustrates the necessity of such bodies as the 5.1.P.A.,” said Mr Smith. -‘lt seems rather quaint that the New York office of this journal should be informing the New Zealand High Commissioner in London that Christchurch has an international airport.”
