NEW STAND AT PARK
Amendments Not Expected
The Victory Park Board did not expect the City Council to make any amendments to the plans for the new No. 3 stand at Lancaster Park, which the board recently decided to submit to the council, said Mr H. C. Blazey at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. The plans more than complied with the specifications for ingress and egress laid down in the new Standards Institute regulations which would come into force on October 1, said Mr Blazey. The contractor was ready to start work, and it was hoped that there would be nothing further to hold him up. Mr D. B. Doake said that he was amazed that the report of Mr C. W. Hamann, the board's engineer, had not been given a greater hearing by the City Council. ‘‘The board shares your amazement,” said Mr Blazey. Mr Blazey added that the old wooden No. 3 stand would be demolished soon. A part of the northern end of the stand would remain in use next year. The wooden planks and boxes at present used for seating on the oval at Lancaster Park would probably be replaced by steel-framed seating, said Mr Blazey.
