ILBINT WINS
Impressive Run At Melbourne (NJS. Preu Assn.— Copyright) MELBOURNE. Aug. 25. The former New Zealand filly Ilbint got up to win the Ailsa Handicap in the last stride at Moonee Valiev on Saturday. Tlbint conceded the second horse. Blue Sapphii 231 b in weight. Her run was one of the best seen on a Melbourne metropolitan course for some time
Ilbint will be set for the Edward Manifold Stakes, for three-year-old fillies, at Flemington, on October 5 She will also run in the One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield and the Oaks Stakes at Flemington. Betatip, Victoria's star two-year-old last season, had a brilliant first-up win in the Macedon Welter. He had little more than a working gallop to beat the good class sprint field. A feature of the race was Betatip’s drift from 9/4 favourite to start at 7/1 after 8/1 had been bet about him in the main ring. He won pulling up by three lengths from Fiero, 20/1. Proteus, backed from 4/1 to 5/2 favourite. was a length and a quarter away third. Betatip’s trainer. Bob Clarton, said the colt's main spring mission was the £20.000 Caulfield Cup. in which he has 7-8. Af:er yesterday's win. Betatip joined the New Zealand mare Lei and Nicopolis as equal third favourite for the cup.
