Obituary MR R. R. FURZE
Mr Richard Russell, Furze. t>' .e owner of Mount Vernon. St. Martins, for 44 years, died recently in Princess Margaret Hospital. He was
Mr Furze was bom at Kill.nchy. mid-Canterbury, and spent his early years at the original Furze homestead at Mount Somers—‘ Buccleugh.” He was educated ait Christ’s College and on leaving school joined the firm at H. Matson and Company. Later, Mr Furze and a brother farmed Penrkand Downs at Waikari. After his marriage he farmed Korari Downs. Culverden. He then bought the 700-acre Mount Vernon farm. Mr Furze was a competent rock and wool judge, and he ■was keenly interested in farming all bis life. He was a staunch member of St. Anne’s Church. St. Martina, and he was the instigator for buying the church section. Mr Furze is survived by two daughters.
