Canterbury Pilgrims’ ®* nce - —“Wear Something Warm’’ was the theme for a dance held ait Eyreton Hail recently by the intermediate group of the Canterbury Pilgrims and Early Settlers’ Association. In keeping witth the theme, many attending the dance wore slacks and jerseys. The organising committee comprised: Mieses K. Hall, P. Bell, L. Crosier, Messrs C. Moore, R. Foster, E Mogr.dge, R. Palmer, H. Rushbridge. Mr and Mrs I. Bell. Ilam road, Christchurch, were hosts at a preliminary gathering. Cultural Society.—Mr H W. Beaumont spoke of places used as backgrounds in books which he and his wife had visited during a world tour, ait a recent meeting of the Christchurch Cultural Society. He illustrated his talk with passages read from books. Piano solos were given by Miss Suzanne Purnell. Mr G Russell gave vocal solos accompanied by Mrs W. E Olds. Mr D. J. Hewitt presided at the function, which was attended by about 40.
Training Centre.—A new £ 10.000 centre tor intellectually handicapped children will be built in Papakura, the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) announced yesterday.—(P.A.)
