HANGING REMIT
No Mover
(NJ:. Preu Association)’ WELLINGTON. July 23.
There was loud and prolonged clapping at the National Party conference today when a remit on capital punishment lapsed for want of a mover. The remit, put forward by the Auckland and Wellington divisions, asked the Government to consider a referendum on capital punishment for some offences. It came up late in the day, after the scheduled time for the end of the conference. Many of the Auckland delegates had already left to catch planes. The remit had been left for the full conference because it was felt the subject was too important to be dealt with by any of the four committees.
