COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS

Two Canterbury Men Chosen (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 22. Nine successful New Zealand candidates for Commonwealth scholarships in Britain, will leave Auckland in the Rangitoto on July 27 The awards, which have been made by the Commonwealth Scholarships Committee in Britain are for two years’ study in universities. A condition of the scholarship is that the holders return to New Zealand on completion of their studies. The nine successful candidates are: Mr I. C. Armstrong (Canterbury), to study concrete structure and technology at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. Mr A. J. Deverson (Canterbury), research in English at the University of Manchester. Mr B. I. Gibbs (Canterbury), to take a course in philosophy at Oxford.

Mr L. C. Holborow (Auckland), to take a course in philosophy at Oxford; Mr D H. Kelly (Auckland) to take a course in classics at Cambridge; Miss M R. Kershaw (Otago), research in organic chemistry at the University of Reading; Mr M. FL Mclntyre (Otago), research in applied mathematics at Cambridge; Mr D. L. Roper (Wellington), research in statistics at the University of Manchester; Mr P. F Rhodes-Robinson (Wellington) to take a course in applied mathematics at the University of Manchester.

Profit shares now being paid out to Hungarian workers equal two weeks’ wages, according to Reutar.
