ONIONS SOLD QUICKLY

N.Z. Shipment To Tokyo

Five tons of New Zealand onions were sold in less than four minutes at Akihabara vegetable market in Tokyo recently, says “Export News,” a publication of the Department of Industries and Commerce.

Mr C. B. Murray, New Zealand Assistant Trade Commissioner in Japan, who visited the market, noted that the New Zealand onions looked very attractive in their brick-coloured cotton mesh bags and compared more than favourably with the Japanese onions also on sale.

These, in 30 kg boxes, were difficult to see, while the New Zealand onions were easily seen through the mesh bags used. For several weeks before April, when Japanese onions come into season, imported onions are needed to meet the demand. The reception of New Zealand onions augurs well for an export trade, says “Export News.”
