Basketball SOME MORNING GAMES

Arrangements For Saturday

Arrangements for the season's first representative matches on Saturday were completed by the Canterbury Basketball Association’s executive at its meeting on Monday evening. It was decided that teams affected by the representative fixtures should play morning games, starting at 10 a.m. Third. fourth, and fifthsixth grade representative teams will travel to Ashburton, and Hutt Valley teams will play Canterbury senior reserve and second grade at Christchurch. All other games will be played as scheduled in the draw guide. Mrs A. Elder and Miss C. Brown were appointed to referee these two fixtures. The treasurer (Mrs J. Lee) reported that all teams were now financial. The final payment on the pavilion, an amount of £395 14s 3d, out of a total of £5613 ss. was passed for payment, and members expressed pleasure that ttie association's funds had been sufficient for this.

BXiture plans included the topdressing ot asphalt courts for which quotations had already been sought and the provision of new stands for spectators. A sub-committee consisting of Miss E. Yates, Mrs R. French, Mrs F. J. Shannahan and Mrs Lee was appointed to make immediate inquiries regarding seating, and was given power to act. It was felt that the present stands were dangerous. As the South Island senior triangular tournament will be played at South Hagley Park on August 3, it was felt that the provision of seating was a necessity.
