Indoor Basketball Rex Loses To Y.M.C.A. In Last Minute

A last-minute collapse robbed Rex of victory over the competition leader. Y.M.C.A., when the fifteenth round of men's basketball A grade matches were played last evening. After leading comfortably. 16-7. at the break, Rex's play deteriorated only slightly but It was enough to lose it the game, 25-24.

Had Rex been able to maintain the standard of play >t reached in the first half and the middle stages of the second half, the result would have been a very different atory. Y.M.C-A.'s play was steady but it lacked its usual fire and accuracy, possibly because of the pressure it was being sub. jected to. It was only m the last minute thst Y.MC.A. took the lead for the first time. The Canterbury representative. R. Entwistle, was the most prominent Y.MC.A. player, although he was given little room in which to move. He scored eight points W. YBoys led. 21-13 The star of the Y-Boys team was the American Deep Freeze player. J Smith. He was the top scorer of the game with 18 points A Pollitt scored 12 and B Fifield eight. Leading 16-14 at half-time. Burnham increased the pressure on University B and forged ahead to win comfortably. 35-24 It was a good solid match with neither side reaching any great heights. D. G. Minhlnnick and P. D. Dyson, scoring 14 and 1! points each, respectively, were Burnham's leading players. A C grade player brought up for the match. C. NELSON COLLEGE BEATS B.H.S.

Fast man-to-man play was a feature of the annual indoor basketball match between Christchurch Boys High School and Nelson College, played at Cowles Stadium last evening. Boys High School lost to Nelson College by the fairly substantial margin of 62 points to 36. but the game was entertaining and reached a high standard The half-time score was 36-21 in favour of Nelson College

The most prominent player was the Nelson repreaenUUve, K. Elliott, who scored 14 points. C. Morris (13) and I. Day <B> were also prominent. G. Cameron was School’s best player, scoring 11 points. K Milligan was sound on defence
