TRAWLER ON SLIP
Towed To Bluff (N.Z. Press Association) ■ INVERCARGILL, July 23. The Dunedin trawler, Solstar, was towed by the Bluff oyster vessel. Ranui, into Bluff today from Ruapuke Island, where she struck a rock late on Sunday night. She was hauled up the slip at 5 p.m. Shiprights will make the trawler as seaworthy as possible and the Ranui, Which was engaged by the insurance company, will tow her to Dunedin where she will undergo an extensive overhaul. It is hoped to have temporary repairs done by the end of the week. Damage is not as bad as was earlier thought. However, the motor will have to be stripped, cleaned, and reassembled because of water damage. There is damage to the keel and stem and a number of seams will have to be re-caulked.
The load of crayfish, worth £4OOO, was insured. It is believed some of it is contaminated by diesel oil and will have to be thrown away
Chimney Fires. / The Christchurch Fire Brigade yesterday was called to two chimney fires. Both were put out before any damage was done. The calls were to a house occupied by Mr G. W Sheriff at 108 Cranford street, at 5.31 p.m., and to a house occupied by Mr G. C. Daniels at 64 Randolph street, at 7.36 p.m.
