LYTTELTON RUBBISH
Standard Tin
Adopted
Residents of Lyttelton will soon have to put all their rubbish into one tin, which must be of a standard size <2i cubic feet) and which must be placed on the edge of the kerb no later than 7.30 ajn. on the day of collection.
These were some of the suggestions made by the Lyttelton Borough Council's works committee in a report which was adopted by the council last evening. The council wants to reorganise its rubbish disposal system. Business premises will be permitted to have two tins — except where persons live on the premises. They will be allowed one tin each. When the new system is brought Into operation—no date was set last eveningonly one collection will be made; on Mondays. At the last meeting of the council a fortnight ago, Cr. W. Dodds said Lyttelton was the “dirtiest and untidiest” town he had ever seen. The council decided then to investigate the possibility of holding an anti-litter campaign.
