Women's Letter To Council (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 17. A request by a housewife for a new pair of stockings was receiv ed by the Ellerslie Borough Council tonight. In a letter to the council the woman said she had stepped into a stormwater sump in the borough, ruining her stockings. Speaking against the council accepting liability, Cr. M. F Smith, commented on the recent adverse publicity about the quality of nylon stockings. "If we are not careful," he said. "«e will have women up and down the length of Ellerslie coming in for new stockings.” The council decided to pass the claim on to its insurance company.
