OBJECT IN SKY

Probably A Meteor

A bright object—probably a meteor—flashed north across the sky about 10.20 p.m. yesterday. Those who saw it agreed that it was big and bright —too big to be a falling star. Mr G. R. Watts and his wife saw it from their home in Aikmans road. “It was brilliant and whitish, and it left a trail of sparks,” Mr Watts said. A man who saw it from his car While driving along Kendal avenue said the light was yellow and green. He thought it was a Very flare.

But the distance between those two points of observation ruled out the possibility of a flare, said Mr C. S. L. Keay, of the physics department of the University of Canterbury. "It was probably a meteor.” he said.
