TEACHERS’ COLLEGE
‘2nd Needed In Christchurch’
Another teachers' training college is needed in Christchurch, Said Mr A. Greenwood at the annual meeting of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association last evening.
Mr Greenwood said that when he first voiced the issue three years ago before the Education Board the reply had been that Christchurch would have to take its turn. He said the Royal Commission on Education had recommended that another teachers’ training college should be available in Christchurch by 1968. “That’s only five years away, and if this is to become a reality then planning should be under way now,” he said.
“If planning is not being made at the present time the college will never be ready in five years’ time and then ,we’ll still be scratching around for teachers.”
Mr Greenwood urged the association to do all in its power to advance the project.
