Extended Term Criticised
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 12.
The extension of the term of service of the General Manager of Railways (Mr A. T. Gandell) was attacked today in a joint statement by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Railway Tradesmen’s Association and the Railway Officers’ Institute.
The statement said the principle of retirement after 40 years’ service had long been cherished by the organisations and the extension to a total of six years’ extra service for Mr Gandell would simply mean definite loss in promotion prospects for a considerable number of worthy officers.
