CLAIMS FOR MEETINGS
Investigation By Counties
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA. June 12.
Councils making unreasonable claims for meeting payments should be named, said Mr I. J. Bergham, of Mangonui, at the annual conference of the Counties’ Association, in Rotorua this morning. The conference decided the question of unreasonable claims should be investigated by the association’s executive and that local authorities concerned should be named. Mr J. J Granville (Rodney), referring to the statement made to the conference yesterday by the Minister of internal Affairs ( Sir Leon Gotz) that there had been unreasonable claims, said investigations should be made and cases revealed.
The president, Mr N. A. Rattray (Waima.te), said Sir Leon Gotz had referred to local authorities, but not specifically to county councils.
He’had not heard of any county council making a double claim for payment for a special meeting held immediately before an ordinary meeting, said Mr Rattray.
