Cricket BRIGHT PLAY AWARD
Nelson Again
Chosen
For the second successive rear. Nelson has been awarded the Technos trophy for the team playing the brightest cricket and showing the most positive approach to the game. Wellington and Northern District* were placed second equal. The award was announced yesterday by tfie secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council (Mr R. G. Knowles).
The trophy is awarded each season by the Technos Watch Company, of Auckland, and the panel making the choice consisted of the president of the New Zealand Cricket Council (Mr E. Hayes, of Dunedin). Messrs J. Newman (Nelson). D Cameron (Auckland), and R. T. Brittenden (Christchurch). Under the terms of the award watches are presented to each player in the successful side; the captain receives a Jtold watch. A cup and a plaque are presented to the winning association.
An extraordinarily strong team for a minor association. Nelson set a record in consecutive defences of the Hawke Cup during 1961-62. Last season it withstood five more challenges, including the dramatic Hutt Valley bid, which produced the most memorable finish of the year. Nelson won by one run after the last Hutt batsman was thrown out by B. Congdon from just inside the boundary.
