The New Zealand trainer. J P. Hayes, will take three gallopers to Melbourne next week following the success of the team’s “star." Our Fun at Randwick yesterday Our fun scored a five-length win in the Two-year-old Handicap (fillies, seven furlongs). Our Fun. backed in from 7/ to 5/4 favouritism, finished strongly down the outside of the field to defeat Piping Hot (1V1)
Capucine (5/1) was two lengths further back, third Hayes came to Australis earlier this year with Our Fun Clarentine and Beau Filou. As in the past, he tried his team in Sydney first to see what they could do
While Beau Filou and Clarentine have yet to win races this was Our Fun’s second win on end at Bandwick Last month, she won a s’milar event, a two-year-old fillies' seven furlong race at 80/1 In the June Stokes the New Zealand gelding Tambula. was backed from 20'1 to 12/1 to make a winning debut in Australia, but after being prominent early in the six furlong event, he tired and finished eleventh of the 13 runners The winner was Persian Spa (14/1) The former New Zealand apprentice. J Johnstone now stable foreman for the Warwick Farm trainer H Riley saddled High Mist. 33/1 winner of the Second Balmoral Novice, in Riley's absence in Brisbane.
Farewell For Mr Lorigan Tha Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. June 9. Mr H. B. Lorigan. who is to retire from his position as chief stipendiary steward of ■he South Island next month, was the guest of the committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club during his farewell official visit to Wingatui on Saturday. A presentation was made to Mr Lorigan by the president of the club, Mr R. C. B. Greenalade.
