Capucine (5/1) was two lengths further back, third Hayes came to Australis earlier this year with Our Fun Clarentine and Beau Filou. As in the past, he tried his team in Sydney first to see what they could do

Lorigan. who is to retire from his position as chief stipendiary steward of ■he South Island next month, was the guest of the committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club during his farewell official visit to Wingatui on Saturday. A presentation was made to Mr Lorigan by the president of the club, Mr R. C. B. Greenalade.
