AWAPUNI EVENT
Parlez Too Good (N.Z. Press Association) PALM. NORTH, June 9. Parlez led for most of the way to win the Palmerston North Handicap, the main event on the first day of the Manawatu Racing Club's meeting at Awapuni on Saturday. Parlez was hotly challenged in the run home by Bright Coral, but she fought back determinedly to gain a narrow decision. Beau Kura was third and Marcato came from the rear for fourth.
The Stewards’ Handicap was won by Red View, which took charge from the pacemaker Maskour soon after they turned for home. Red View held off a late challenge from Croydon’s Gold to win a photo-finish. There was a major upset in the Suburban Hack Handicap when the outsider but one. Gold Moon, paid one of the largest win dividends recorded at a galloping meeting in New Zealamd for some time. She returned £265 6s 6d and £32 13s 6d. With Mireusonta in the on-course double the return was £449 Is 6d.
Most of the racing was held in fine weather, though the last race was run in a light drizzle. The track was heavy. Results:—
