Sugar
Sir, —According to report* from overseas the price of sugar advanced swiftly from £B2 10s to a maximum of £lOl, an increase of approximately 22j per cent, and then within a few days the maximum price fell to £B9. a decrease of approximately 11| per cent., or to a net increase of approximately 8 per cent on the original price of £B2 10s a ton. Perhaps the Minister of Industries and Commerce will take immediate action to stop the exploita-
tion of the consumers which is so apparent in the price increase of 25 per cent, in confectionery as indicated in a press report of “Fewer sweets selling at higher prices” (June 6). Apparently the early bird catches the worm.—Yours, etc., RIP VAN WINKLE, June 7, 1963.
